On Friday, August 28, the National Religious Partnership for the Environment submitted comments from 9 national organizations and 12,295 people of faith - including thousands of Black Church pastors - responding to the Environmental Protection Agency's proposed rollbacks to heavy duty cars and trucks engine regulations.
The proposed rule allows manufacturers to buy their way out of regulatory compliance, grant excess manufacturing credits, reduce the required useful life of emissions controls devices, and allow trucks with faulty emission controls to remain on the road for longer — all of these measures undermine the stringency and integrity of a program meant to protect American communities, both present and future, from dangerous air pollution.
