Selected Scripture Passages
God’s care for creation
Matthew 6:25-30 (NAB)
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about
your life, what you will eat (or drink), or
about your body, what you will wear. Is not
life more than food and the body more than clothing?
Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow
or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet
your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you
more important than they? Can any of you by
worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why
are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the
way the wild flowers grow. They do not work
or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon
in all his splendor was clothed like one of
them. If God so clothes the grass of the field,
which grows today and is thrown into the oven
tomorrow, will he not much more provide for
you, O you of little faith?”

Jesus’
example of dominion as service
Matthew 20:25-28 (NRSV)
But Jesus called them to him and said, “You
know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it
over them, and their great ones are tyrants
over them. It will not be so among you; but
whoever wishes to be great among you must be
your servant, and whoever wishes to be first
among you must be your slave; just as the Son
of Man came not to be served but to serve, and
to give his life a ransom for many.”
The Word in creation and incarnation
John 1:1-14 (NIV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God. He was with God
in the beginning.
Through him all things were made; without him
nothing was made that has been made. In him
was life, and that life was the light of men.
The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness
has not understood it.
