Why Are Religious Communities
Getting Involved in Environmental Issues?
At its core, the environmental crisis is a moral
challenge. It calls us to examine how we use and
share the goods of the earth, what we pass on
to future generations, and how we live in harmony
with God's creation. . . . Today's crises in global
ecology demand concerted and creative thought
and effort on the part of all of us: scientists,
political leaders, business people, workers, lawyers,
farmers, communicators, and citizens generally.
As moral teachers, we intend to lift up the moral
and ethical dimensions of these issues. (U.S.
Catholic Bishops, “Renewing
the Earth.” ) |
