The National
Council of Churches of Christ - USA
Eco-Justice Programs
The National
Council of Churches, founded in 1950, is the
leading force for ecumenical cooperation among
Christians in the United States . The NCC's 36
Protestant, Anglican, Orthodox, historic African
American and Living Peace member faith groups
include 45 million persons in more than 100,000
local congregations in communities across the
nation.
Since 1983, with the formation of Eco-Justice Working Group, the National Council of Churches has been providing an opportunity for the national bodies of member Protestant and Orthodox denominations to work together to protect and restore God's Creation. A major task of the Working Group is to provide program ideas and resources to help congregations as they engage in environmental justice.
The Eco-Justice Programs office of the National Council of Churches works in cooperation with the NCC Eco-Justice Working Group to provide an opportunity for the national bodies of member Protestant and Orthodox denominations to work together to protect and restore God's Creation.
'Environmental Justice' is a holistic term that
includes all ministries designed to heal and defend
creation. 'Eco-Justice' is an even broader term
that includes efforts to assure justice for all
of creation and the human beings who live in it.
