Water Prayers to EPA from God's People
Religious leaders and people of faith across the country submitted prayers to the Environmental Protection Agency urging EPA to uphold its mission to protect human health and clean water. These prayers are in response to EPA's announcement that it would be rolling back the 2015 Clean Water Rule
Dearest Creator of Everything,
You are our guide and our vision. This is the Passover season of our freedom from Egypt. In ancient times you gave us the blessing of Miriam's well which followed your people throughout their time in the desert.
Today we are not in a desert walking towards freedom but rather a desert of our will in which our decision makers do not have the needed inspiration to make sure that our water sources are alive and protecting.
Please, Lord, give our leaders the wisdom to conserve the blessed water we so need to survive in your beautiful and bountiful world.
Let our leaders open their hearts and find the courage necessary to care for and sustain our water resources no matter the political obstacles.
Let them understand how essential clean water is for the public good and for our planet's and its people's survival.
Give us a new Miriam, however envisioned, and protect our life-sustaining water.
We ask with our hearts open for your love and for your blessing.
AMEN -- prayer submitted by Rabbi Steve Gutow, New York, NY
"I ask You, Sacred Spirit, to inspire people of faith like me to hold the United States government--especially the EPA--responsible for allowing businesses and corporations to pollute our waterways. All Americans should have access to clean drinking water. As we watch sea levels rise, help us to have the courage to demand protection for wetlands that protect our homes and communities from flooding. We must be your hands and feet, caring for this Sacred Earth which we share with all living beings." -- prayer sent to EPA in response to the Waters of the U.S. rule making, by Charlene Nevans, Moreland Hills, OH
Dearest God, You have given us the life-sustaining gift of water, and placed upon us the responsibility for protecting it. Please, Lord, awaken the conscience of our lawmakers so that they fulfill their duty of care for the blessed waters of our land. Strengthen them to withstand the temptations and pressures of those who seek to dissuade them from pursuing the public good. Empower them to understand what science teaches about the threats facing the waters of life ans to act accordingly. In all these things, make the priority for us all the preservation of clean water, for the sake of life. AMEN - Prayer to EPA from Rev. Fletcher Harper, GreenFaith
