For its efforts, in 2004, PLNU was honored by the City of San Diego as a “Recycler of the Year,” and by California’s Waste Reduction Awards Program as the only institution of higher learning among a diverse group of businesses that had cut back on their waste.

Though the program’s founder, Celeste Howe, has graduated, recycling and RST’s efforts continue in earnest to fulfill their goal of promoting campus conservation, broadening discussion of the environment, and collaboration with Christian and secular organizations to encourage thinking, conversation and action on resource stewardship.
