Towson Presbyterian Church
Towson, MD

April 2004 was designated as Earth Month to engage all age groups in the church in activities that provided educational, inspirational and hands-on experiences to raise their consciousness about Caring for God's Creation.

During Earth Month, the church planted a BayScapes garden to retain water and to restore native habitat. Middle and senior grades planted 53 trees at a county park. A field trip for elementary grades was conducted to a local preserve to provide a firsthand experience in restoration. Worship on April 25, Earth Sunday, included drama, music, earthkeeping prayers, hymns, and litanies that involved the whole congregation, particularly children, youth, and young adults. Throughout the month, the Earth Corps distributed a new brochure (PDF) detailing the church's historical efforts to restore God's creation, a recommended reading list, and stocked the children and adult libraries with creation care books.
