St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
Chestnut Hill, PA

In the spring of 2004, the church created a butterfly garden on its grounds in order to restore the habitat of native species. Eastman declares, “The garden is a celebration project, after a hard winter and with many challenges facing the congregation.” Also in 2004, St. Paul’s Property Committee completed a critical storm water management project based on sustainable landscaping.

Eastman concludes, “Sustainability has become integrated into parish life. In the spring of 2004, the Vestry upgraded the Task Force to make it a Standing Committee. In the fall of 2004, the parish began creating a new parish profile; now integral to St. Paul’s profile is working to create a sustainable parish and world.”
