The Eden Climate Project
reforestation as a religious response to climate change
50,000 Trees
This Earth Day, join NRPE's mission to be stewards of the Earth by helping your congregation plant a tree for each one of its members. With your support, we hope to demonstrate the ways in which individuals can engage their faith communities to make a difference one tree at a time. You can start helping by getting your church involved to plant a tree for each member this Earth Day or by donating money to help others plant them.
Why Every Tree MattersPlanting trees may seem like a small way of helping the environment in the face of large issues like climate change, but taking care of and improving local environments is a critical step in taking care of all of God's creation. Research has shown that reforestation has the potential to mitigate more greenhouse gas output than any other natural climate solution such as sustainable agriculture or land conservation, making it the most impactful activity for combating climate change that is easily accessible to everybody. Humanity's duty to take care of our forests as stewards of the Earth is more important now than ever as trees are the Earth's best method of sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and reducing human's overall greenhouse gas output. Natural climate solutions like reforestation and forest management can provide over one-third of the climate change mitigation needed to stabilize the planet's warming below 2°C by 2030 as planned by the Paris Climate Agreement and reduce carbon output by an estimated 23.8 billion tons each year. Overall, planting trees is an extremely vital and cost-effective way for one to directly help improve the world we all share.
